Ellie Lange Blevins helps oil and gas operators navigate complex mineral and leasehold ownership issues, combining detailed title analysis with a practical understanding of the energy industry. Her practice focuses on drilling and division order title opinions, mineral and leasehold title examination, and identifying title defects affecting oil and gas operations.
A foundation in energy and environmental science
Ellie’s connection to the energy industry began at an early age. Her father’s career in oil and gas took her family around the world, providing her with a global perspective on the industry and the communities it serves. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, in 2020 and her Juris Doctor from Charleston School of Law in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2024. During law school, Ellie served as chair of the Transactional Law Team and competed in the William & Mary Law School Negotiation Tournament, where she and her competition partner advanced to the semifinals. She also served as Vice President of the Business Law Society.
Navigating complex ownership histories
Ellie examines intricate chains of title, evaluates mineral and leasehold ownership, and analyzes the instruments that establish, transfer, or burden oil and gas interests, with particular experience involving properties in the Bakken Formation of the Williston Basin. She works with issues involving probate, trusts, conveyances, mortgages, royalty interests, overriding royalty burdens, and more.
Practical guidance for energy clients
Ellie approaches title opinions as tools for informed decision-making, identifying ownership discrepancies and formulating clear requirements for addressing title defects. Her title examination work has involved properties in Texas, Montana, and beyond, bringing careful analysis and practical guidance to complicated ownership questions.
A commitment to learning and collaboration
Ellie approaches her practice with intellectual curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. She welcomes unfamiliar challenges as opportunities to expand her knowledge and values the experience and perspectives of her colleagues. By asking thoughtful questions, remaining open to different approaches, and continually building on what she knows, she strives to provide thoughtful, practical guidance to clients.
“I believe that being a good attorney means staying curious. I enjoy tackling new challenges, asking thoughtful questions, and learning from the people around me. There is always more to learn, and that mindset helps me grow and better serve clients.”
