Lance Joiner

Partner

Lance Joiner advises oil and gas operators on ownership disputes, title curative work, joint operating agreements, surface use agreements and pipeline easements, and acquisition and divestiture due diligence across Texas and Ohio, with an emerging practice in carbon capture and geothermal energy leasing.

Title Opinions, Oil and Gas Transactions, and Carbon Capture and Geothermal Leasing

He has drafted and reviewed hundreds of title opinions over his career, including acquisition, drilling, division order and supplemental opinions, and regularly manages teams of attorneys working alongside landmen, division order analysts, and in-house counsel on title examination and transactional due diligence.

Alongside the title and deal work, Lance drafts and interprets deeds, oil and gas leases, assignments, and other industry agreements, and handles pooling, allocation well, and regulatory matters. That same foundation now supports his work negotiating leases for carbon capture, carbon sequestration, and geothermal energy projects.

Before joining Feighny Hartle, Lance worked as a landman and spent time at two well-regarded Houston oil and gas firms. That experience still shapes how he advises clients, favoring a practical path forward over a technically complete answer that cannot be implemented. At his first firm he served as the designated training attorney, working directly with roughly fifty new lawyers, and he continues to enjoy mentoring.

Recognition, Speaking and Personal Background

He also writes and presents regularly on general oil and gas topics such as deed interpretation, joint operating agreements, pooling, and allocation wells.

Lance is Board Certified in Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He was named a Texas Super Lawyer each year from 2022 to 2026 and received a Houstonia Magazine Top Lawyer honor in 2021.

Outside the office, Lance grew up around his family’s construction business and plays guitar, bass, and drums. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
